Are your tours suitable for children?
I love when children come on my tours with their parents. I make the tour interesting, engaging and fun for the children while interesting, entertaining and relaxing for the parents. A great day guaranteed for all ages.
Are your tours suitable for people with mobility considerations?
Yes, my tours are generally suitable for guests with mobility issues, particularly since I use a top-of-the-range Land Rover Discovery. This vehicle offers a comfortable ride and easy entry/exit compared to many standard sedan cars. I can adapt the tour pace and stops to accommodate your needs. Please let me know about any specific mobility requirements when booking so I can ensure the best experience for you.
Could you plan multi-day tours for us?
Yes. While I am not a tour operator, I can suggest a multi-day tour itinerary for you for dates on which I am available. Let me know your preferred dates and what you’d like to experience, and I can make some suggestions.
What kind of vehicle is used for the tours?
You’ll be traveling in comfort and style in my top-of-the-range Land Rover Discovery. It’s a premium SUV known for its spacious and luxurious interior, smooth air suspension ride, and excellent visibility, ensuring a comfortable journey particularly on scenic Irish country and coastal roads.
How long have you been a private driver-guide?
I’ve had the pleasure of being a private driver-guide for fifteen years, and it truly doesn’t feel like work because I get to share my love for Ireland every day. Beyond just driving, I’ve also poured my knowledge and passion into writing four guidebooks on various parts of the country. These books are available for purchase on this website.
Are there opportunities for scenic walks or light hikes?
Yes, absolutely! There are some opportunities for scenic walks and light hikes. I love incorporating these opportunities into my tours. I can tailor the itinerary to include walks that suit your fitness level and interests. Just let us know what you’d like to experience!
Do you offer hotel pickup at the start of the tour, and can we be dropped off at a different location afterwards?
Yes, I offer complimentary hotel pickup at the start of your tour and can arrange for drop-off at a different location afterwards within my service area. This is particularly popular for clients who include the tour as part of their journey from one hotel to another.
Do you explain the Irish political and social system?
On my tours, I discuss and describe many facets of Irish life, including its rich history and politics, its unique social system, vibrant music, and influential writers. While I’m not a historian, I offer a broad and lively perspective, bringing all aspects of Ireland to life for you.
Is your transport suitable for wheelchairs?
Unfortunately, my car is not suitable for for wheelchair users. Sorry! There are service providers who can provide transportation for wheelchair users. What time do we start and finish each day?
Typically day tours start at 9am and finish by 5pm. If you prefer to start earlier or later please let me know and I can amend the details accordingly.
Where will you meet us for the tour?
Generally I collect clients from their hotel but if you prefer an alternative meeting point please let me know and I can facilitate your request.
Can you help us trace our Irish ancestors?
While I’m not a genealogist and don’t conduct the initial research I can help when you have location information. You might consider starting your research on Ancestry.com or by exploring the resources available at the National Archives of Ireland (https://nationalarchives.ie/help-with-research/types-of-research/family-history-research/). For North Mayo enquiries you should contact North Mayo Heritage Centre: https://northmayoheritagecentre.ie/bespoke-services/visit-your-ancestral-townland/. Many other professional genealogists can also provide this service for you. Once you’ve managed to trace your ancestors’ origins in Ireland, I’d be thrilled to take you the location. I can help you find the property where they lived before emigrating and, with a bit of luck, perhaps even connect you with a distant cousin or two still living in the area!
Can you carry more than 5 passengers?
For day tours I drive a top of the range Land Rover Discovery with 7 seats. For most bookings I limit the number of clients to 5 so that everybody has a window seat. In request I can carry up to 6 passengers which means that one person will be seated in the middle of the middle row. This means that there is no room for bags or back packs etc. Contact me for further information.
